Language Assistants - click here for more information All families are different so you need to be flexible, but you will not be expected to be totally responsible for the housework. Once you have completed the application form and returned to us for registration we will forward to Italy and we will supply you with possible family matches for you to consider. If you are interested then you will need to call them for an informal chat. From here on in the family confirms your placement, we advise you and you book your flight. Once confirmed the family will then meet you at the airport. Italian staff are available if you have any problems while in your family and on arrival.
Application fee in NZ is NZ$150. We will return your application form and fee if you do not have enough experience or do not meet the criteria. Do I need a visa? If you are not a EU citizen and you want to be an au pair in Italy you will need a study visa (you will be participating in a cultural exchange). There are only 250 Working Holiday Visas available per year for the whole of NZ, but you are welcome to apply for one instead of a Study Visa if you want to. How do I apply for a study visa? You will need;
- proof of enrolment at a recognised language school or university in Italy
- A letter of guarantee from your Host Family
- Private Health Insurance (Travel Insurance including Medical)
- Proof you can support yourself (copy of bank statement/letter of credit)
- A return ticket and itinerary with the date and place of entry to Italy and place and date of departure from Italy.
- See the Italian Embassy website for full details -

How long can I stay? 2 years maximum Who supports me in Italy? Our partner agency in Italy will make every effort to ensure you have a good experience and they are always available to provide information or help with any problems that may arise. If required they will assist in re-matching you to another host family if your original match falls through. In this situation they can only rematch you if the family are prepared to give you a good childcare reference.
Your duties: Help care for the children, assist in the house, (vacuuming, dusting, light washing, ironing, etc) and help prepare meals. An Au Pair is NOT expected to take sole responsibility for any of these tasks on a permanent basis.
Things to note: It can be difficult to find language classes in the European summer.
Send us your completed application form ensuring everything on the checklist is included, including the Police check application form at least 2 months before you intend to leave for Italy.
